At Synergy Designer Homes we believe owning a home is a great investment and a source of pride for the homeowner but it also requires being responsible for regular maintenance. This home maintenance means checking for possible repairs and that everything works properly. We suggest establishing a set maintenance schedule to help protect the value of your investment.
Over the next few blog posts, we’ll cover monthly, twice a year and yearly maintenance tasks recommended to maintain your home. These recommendations come from the 2-10 Home Buyer Warranty manual.
Up first is the Monthly Maintenance list. Please note that this list is only a guideline, and should not replace manufacturer’s recommendations.
1. Smoke detectors: Push test button to make sure it still works and replace batteries if need be.
2. Fire extinguishers: Be sure you have one in several areas of your home such as garage and kitchen.
3. Garbage disposal: Clean blades with ice cubes and lemons.
4. Clean/replace dirty range hood filters.
5. Sink drains: Flush with hot water and baking soda to clean and freshen.
6. Inspect furnace and A/C filters and replace as required.
7. Clean faucet aerators: Harder water can leave more deposits.
8. Check caulking around sinks, countertops, tubs and showers. Replace as needed.
9. Check carpets and other floor coverings for any needed repairs or stains.
10. Check for leaks around toilets, sinks and around the dishwasher.
With any of these tasks, remember safety first! Are there other monthly maintenance items we missed on our list that you recommend? Tell us in the comments or on our Facebook page.
